Juneteenth Oregon Celebration

  • Lillis Albina Park Portland, OR, 97227 United States (map)

Juneteenth Oregon celebrates the date in 1865 when Major General Gordon Granger read "General Order No. 3," in Galveston, Texas, declaring that all slaves were free.

Juneteenth commemorates African American freedom and emphasizes education and achievement. It is a day, a week, and in some areas, a month marked with celebrations, guest speakers, picnics and family gatherings. It is a time for reflection and rejoicing. It is a time for assessment, self-improvement and planning for the future.

Juneteenth Oregon celebrations begin with a parade, followed by various festivities, including live music and entertainment, art, food, educational booths, cultural exhibitions, community resources and a children’s play area in Lillis-Albina Park at N Flint Avenue and Russell Street.
