Celebrating Black History Month this February

Black History Month (illustrated in red, yellow, and green).

February marks the commemoration of Black History Month, celebrated globally by people of the Black/African diaspora, as well as non-Black people. Here in Portland, you can participate and show support by using and sharing the Black-Owned Business Guide, featuring companies in the Mercatus directory whose owners all identify as Black, African American, or African.

Visit Prosper Portland’s Celebrating Black Histories page to learn more about Portland's Black community, technical support opportunities and grants, partner organizations, how to support Black-owned businesses, and a compilation of the Prosper Portland Black Affinity Group’s favorite books, movies, music, poets and artists.

Follow Prosper Portland’s social media accounts for profiles of local Black-led programs and organizations. You’ll also find Black History Month events here on Shop Small PDX!

And the Northwest African American Museum (NAAM) will present a variety of programs throughout the month of February that center Black heritage, including children’s read-alongs and film screenings.
